I am one of those people who believe that there is science in astrology.
Although Indian astrology is known as Vedic astrology, interesting fact is that it is not mentioned anywhere in Vedas but mentioned in "Vedanta", which is a part of Vedas.
Life is most unpredictable and so are we humans. Life gives us a lot of grief sometimes, then sometimes it comes in the form of a bed of roses. Although life is full of happiness and sadness, the truth is that none of us know what is going to happen to us in the coming days or even in the coming hours. Why is our life so uncertain? What is the reason responsible for this uncertainty?
Although science has advanced so far that it can predict impending tsunamis, features of galaxies billions of light years away, and many other facts that were unknown to us even a few years ago, it is still unable to predict the future.

And where science has surrendered, pseudo science i.e. astrology has advanced. Some people consider astrology to be a superstition. They think that how can we predict our future by calculating the positions of celestial bodies? How are heavenly bodies able to change one's life?
But is astrology really a pseudoscience, or is there some science underlying all astrological calculations? I am one of those people who believe that there is science in astrology. This mysterious science fascinated my mind from long ago which inspired me to know the origin of astrology and more about it. Today I will share with you some facts about astrology.
Origin of Astrology
Astrology originated in the ancient cradle of civilization - Babylonia in the 19th century BC. Astrology is highly regarded as a science through the study of Plato, Aristotle and others. Although initially people used it to predict weather, agricultural development, natural disaster war etc., recently it has entered our daily life. Nowadays most of us use astrology to know our future.
Different schools of astrology
Today there are three main schools of astrology. They are:
Indian Astrology - It is known as Vedic Jyoti's or "Jyoti's". The great sage "Parashar" developed the concept of Indian astrology. Although Indian astrology is known as Vedic astrology, interesting fact is that it is not mentioned anywhere in Vedas but mentioned in "Vedanta", which is a part of Vedas. Later, some eminent philosophers like Satyacharya, Varsha Mihi did some incredible work on Indian astrology and wrote books on it. So far the period of origin of Indian astrology is not clear. But according to some it originated between 1200 BC and 2500 BC.

There are three main categories of Vedic astrology. They are:
Theory- It is the study of Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry, Astronomy and Geometry. It helps to calculate the planetary positions of various celestial bodies.
Samhita- It is the study of planetary positions of Sun and other celestial bodies and their influence on natural calamities, wars, storms, various geo-political effects etc.
Hora- This is the predictive astrology of a person which is further divided into the following sub branches-
Sphere – This is positional astronomy
Mathematica – It is a numerical analysis tool for analysing round results
Jataka- This is natal astrology and is the horoscope of a person
Question- It answers specific questions based on the time the question is asked
Muhurta - It is the auspicious time chosen to start any work
Namita - They are omens and predictions
Phonetics – It is usually based on names and sounds
Numerology- It deals with the relationship between numbers and people
Nadim- It is a comprehensive study of a person's past, present and future
Feminine – This is female astrology related to female genitalia
Tajik scriptures - It deals with annual solar returns
Nastajatakam – It corrects the lost horoscope

Chinese Astrology - One of the oldest schools of astrology, after Indian astrology or Hindu astrology, is the Chinese school of astrology. From certain perspectives, Chinese crystal gazing began millennia prior. It entered China through the same Silk Route, the Central Asian trade route through which Buddhism entered China from India. Chinese crystal gazing depends on the lunar cycle and requires twelve years to finish. It comprises of five components - metal, water, wood, fire and earth. Yin and Yang are the balancing, vital forces that keep the universe in a balanced state at every level. Although it is mainly popular in East-Asia, yet it is one of the most popular beliefs of common people all over the world and they consult Chinese astrology in their daily life.

Different astrologers in different parts of this world follow different types of astrology to predict the future of an individual or a nation. Many astrologers, astrologers, predict a person's future, although they do not provide any written proof of its veracity. The so-called "scientific" people view these astrological predictions as "trickery".
Be that as it may, as of late researchers have laid out the science behind soothsaying. It is true that the tabloid-astrology that we sometimes see on the internet or in the tabloids in the form of daily horoscopes has no scientific basis to predict that you are a Scorpio and that you will win the lottery today. But there is no denying the account of a famous astrologer who predicted long back what was going to happen to you and the same is happening to you now. It is also true that if the rotation of the moon affects the seas and oceans and is responsible for the tides, it must also affect human life.
The debate on whether astrology is a science or a pseudo science will continue for days to come. But taking into account its historical origins, accurate predictions of some astrologers before the event, and scientific studies, can we really say that it is all a hoax? Do we have to show the spirit of denying the hidden science behind astrology?
